Reading a meter

Meters are now available for gas, water and electricity and there are a variety of types in properties around the UK . Here we look at the simple method of reading a meter.

Digital Meter

Ignore any numbers in red - only the black numbers would need to be read on this meter.

Dial meter

You are looking for 5 digits – one from each dial. Ignore the small one underneath.

Copy down the number the hand in the first dial is pointing at and move on to the next dial for the next number. If any hand is in between numbers, note down the lower of the pair.
